Lefkada’s trademark feature is its amazing beach diversity and beauty.
Mesmerizing beaches that go on forever with pure crystal waters and alluring coasts; azure sea that vanishes into the blue horizon. Whichever side of the island you choose to visit, the island will not disappoint you.
Kathisma beach
The bucket list destination beaches are those found on the west side of the island; Kathisma is perhaps the most popular one, known for its lengthy, cosmopolitan shore, organized with sunbeds and umbrellas, taverns and beach bars. The pebbly white sand is its signature feature. It is easily accessible which makes it crowded during the weekends. Therefore, we strongly suggest you visit Kathisma beach on a weekday. Please note that big waves are a frequent phenomenon and it can be really amusing, though it would be wise to be really cautious, especially when visiting with children. Finally, Kathisma beach has a steep and deep basin, so we strongly suggest that kids are supervised at all times.
Porto Katsiki Beach
Lefkada’s most well-known beach is indisputably Porto Katsiki. It is ranked among the top 10 beaches of the Mediterranean Sea, and deservedly so! During the 100 steps descent that leads to the beach, one quickly realizes the unprecedented views…! Imposing steep rocks, white, blinding sand, turquoise waters. The beach is declared as a natural habitat of special beauty and it is protected by environmental laws, hence it is bare of amenities. We strongly advise you to carry plenty of water, snacks and means of shade, even though there is a canteen with snacks, beverages and water just before the steep descent. Alternatively, you can visit Porto Katsiki beach by boat, getting on board from Vasiliki or Nidri.
Egremni Beach
Another favorite beach is Egremni. It is a 2km shore, with light brown sand and turquoise waters, giving you Caribbean vibes. Because of its inaccessibility (350 steps of steep descent), it is much less crowded compared to other beaches of equal size. For those who make it, Egremni beach will compensate for the challenge by giving you hours of isolation and pure summer bliss. Surprisingly enough, there is a small canteen on the beach, where you can buy water, cocktails and snacks during the day.
West side beaches
Other beaches on the west side of Lefkada, are calmer but equally clean, blue and lengthy such as Gialos, Mylos, Kalamitsi and Pefkoulia. Aghios Nikitas, the picturesque village, features its own beaches which are smaller, highly visited and more family oriented.
East and south side Beaches
For those visiting the east side of the island, the beaches of Nikiana, Episkopos and Lygia are perfect for a calm and relaxing swim! Of course, don’t forget the famous coast of Nidri as well as those on the south side of the island, such as Vasiliki and Agiofili.
